This Week in Reading (Oct 12, 2009)

This week we will continue working on Figurative Language, specifically Personification and Symbolism.

We will also be reviewing "The Treasure of Lemon Brown" by Walter Dean Myers. The test for this short story will be on Wednesday.

We will also be reading "The Secret Heart" by Robert P. Tristram Coffin, which contains symbolism throughout. Students should be able to interpret this symbolism and become familiar with poetry that contrains COUPLETS -two rhyming lines.

Students will be required to write their own poems containing SYMBOLISM and COUPLETS.

Remember that this is the first week of the 2nd Nine Weeks and that Reading Logs are due EVERY Friday.

Our next Book Talk deadline of November 13th is fast approaching. Remember that Book Talks are counted as MAJOR Project Grades.

Richness Thru Reading,

K. Jones
