This week we will continue reading our classroom novel, "Catherine Called Birdy" by Karen Cushman, and responding to the text in our Reading Journals.
We will also continue "dissecting" the literary element of CONFLICT, especially as it relates to the story "Raymond's Run" in our Elements of Literature book.
Our Vocabulary test was postponed until this Friday, Aug. 28th to allow us to complete all of our vocabulary assignments, thereby giving the students better understanding of our words.
Our featured Georgia author this month is Carson McCullers. We will be completing our Author Study of her, and reading an excerpt from her book, "The Member of the Wedding."
MAP Testing in each subject area also begins this week, with the Reading MAP testing date yet to be determined due to the tests not arriving on time.
Hope all is well with each of you . . . .and remember that each of you has your own unique potential!

This Week in Reading (Aug 10- 14)
This week in Reading, each student will be issued an "Elements of Literature" text book. Students, remember to maintain these books in the condition in which they are issued, or you will pay a text book fee at the end of the school year.
Also, this week, I will be administering a Reading Diagnostic test to each student. This test will help me to determine what each student's strengths and weaknesses are in reading.
Since the library will not open to students for at least another week, we will begin reading our first classroom novel entitled "Catherine Called Birdy" by author Karen Cushman. We will also begin making entries into our Reading Journals this week. Students will also receive and begin working on their first set of vocabulary words. They are as follows:
1. appalling
2. contagious
3. eminent
4. epidemic
5. intentional
6. myriad
7. picturesque
8. probable
9. romantic
10. ruthless
Home reading logs will be distributed and are due on this Friday. No exceptions.
Remember that you are REQUIRED to bring your Reading Notebook and Reading Journals to class EVERY DAY!
